The Olive Harvest 2023 was not rich in production.
We obtained 2500 liters of Olio DOP Chianti Classico – from Moraiole olives,  against an average of 7000 litres.
The reasons are various: first of all the olive tree is a plant that alternates a rich production with a poorer one the following year, and 2023 we were in the lowest phase.
Furthermore, the season was good until late spring: the heavy rains in May allowed the plants to have an excellent water supply for the summer, but in September, one of the hottest ever, the plants ran out of water and went suffering, (we have not irrigation) therefore many fruits have fallen, as the olive tends to make a natural selection, leaving the best olives on the plant.
What does not help the production of olives is also the increasingly present thermal shock that we have in the flowering phase: this year too we had late flowering, determined by the cold climate of the first part of spring, so the olives instead of in April/May they flowered in June, a month which in the first part was very cool, and by mid-June we went from cool temperatures to very hot temperatures in the space of 2-3 days. Therefore the plant is unable to acclimatise and the result is a conspicuous drying of the flowers…. flowers which in July become small olives.

The quality of the DOP Chianti Classico oil – from only 2023 Moraiole olives is one of the best ever.
All the classic flavors are present and are perfectly balanced. A Real Tuscan Extra Virgin Olive Oil !
